A new version of the website is in the works as I finish up the web design class I’m currently taking. It should be up and running by the end of this week.

This is a logo for a local grassroots group: Elkhart County Works Together. Their mission is to bring those who are out of work together with to plant gardens, weatherize homes and do odd jobs for those who need help.

The image is an abstracted view of the farmlands and lakes in the region and the Elkhart County courthouse. I used an image of the city and an image of the country to show their goal was getting towns and rural areas working together.I also made a black & white version for display in small, printed formats whenever they can’t use color.

This is a project I worked on last year while I was finishing up my degree and had some spare time on my hands. These are the dvd cover and menu I designed for Andy Salgado’s music video. The song was “Proud of your love” by DBSK, sung by Josh Cha and Charles Lee. Andy, Charles and Josh practiced, sang and recorded this video on their own time, outside of classes just for the experience and to build their portfolios.

Drawing all those tiny little stars took forever!

A chronological slideshow of the Batman icon through a few of its many iterations. Personally, the old animated series just ingrained itself on my mind. After seeing the logo so many times in that form it just looks right to me. Of course. the redesign for the Tim Burton movies is also just a very nice logo.

Here’s a current work-in-progress: a t-shirt design for Goshen’s community contra-dancing group. This is the front of the design, the back will have a ring of dancers and the web-address. Though black and white here, the final version will depend on which colors of shirts the group wants.

Weeklong Trip

03/02/2009

I returned this weekend, from my weeklong trip south, where I visited family in North Carolina and DC. I was able to get some sense of the region in North Carolina known as the research triangle; specifically the Apex-Carey area. Its a diverse and well-educated place that has experienced rapid growth in recent times and stood out sharply against the much poorer areas of apalachia we drove through to get there. Its a collection of smaller towns that have merged with the suburbs of nearby larger ones with many new buildings still underway.
I didn’t see all of Washington DC as I was only there two days and the city is quite sprawling. I did however have a long walk through the capitol district seeing the Washington monument (though the reflecting pool was drained), the Lincoln memorial, the Vietnam War memorial and a number of other monuments to dead leaders and wars. The Smithsonian air and space museum was a real treat. aircraft and spacecraft both actual and replica were on display from aviation’s birth to the early jet age. Gemini and Apollo capsules, the Spirit of St Louis, Chuck Yeager’s mach-1 jet and Spaceship-1greet you in the entrance, and the early flight, WWWII and early airliner exhibits were all fascinating. I highly recommend it if you’re in the area.
